Even celebrities can face disability discrimination on the job

Actress Jennifer Esposito, a series regular on the CBS hit show "Blue Bloods," suffers from celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that prevents the absorption of certain nutrients. It can cause symptoms ranging from diarrhea to fatigue, weakness, and malnutrition. Her doctor has recommended she work a reduced schedule, but CBS allegedly refused to allow that.

Walmart workers may strike on Black Friday for employee rights

Last week, workers at multiple Walmart stores in Southern California engaged in a one-day strike. The work-stoppage was the first in Walmart's 50-year history, and the company maintains an entirely union-free workforce in North America. It wasn't a traditional strike, because most of the workers can't afford to stay away from work. Can they afford to stand up for employee rights in this economy?

Former partner now accuses Kleiner Perkins of wrongful termination

As we discussed on this blog back in July, a female partner at tech-venture capital giant Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers LLC in Silicon Valley has sued the firm for sexual harassment and gender discrimination. According to her complaint, women at Kleiner Perkins were referred to as "buzz kills," and a supervisor had apparently told the woman that, if she didn't like being propositioned at work, she might consider marrying her harasser.
