Work-life balance is an important issue for all professionals, including physicians. The demands of work can have a significant effect not only on a physician’s personal life, but also a physician’s ability to fulfill work obligations and meet the needs of patients.

Previously, we looked very briefly at the general process the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission uses to handle discrimination complaints. As we noted last time, federal statutes require employees to file a complaint with the EEOC before suing in court, and the agency will give notice when a complainant is clear to sue the employer.

Last time, we began looking at a lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against a MN construction company accused of engaging in unfair discriminatory practices and creating a hostile work environment for African American employees. As we mentioned last time, these employees were listed as plaintiff-intervenors in the EEOC lawsuit.

EEOC files racial discrimination lawsuit against MN construction company

Last week, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a complaint in federal court alleging that a construction company based in Hugo, Minnesota engaged in racial discrimination and harassment against its employees. Two of the company’s former African American employees claimed that they had been harassed on multiple occasions by a white supervisor. They also alleged that the company failed to address the situation when they reported it.
